Mindful Consumption
Mindful consumption begins with asking the questions "Do I really need this?" or "Can I get it second-hand?" But this practice can be taken to a much deeper level by asking more questions such as
"Are people, animals, or the environment being harmed in the manufacture of this product?"
For example...
- If your coffee is not "Fairly-Traded", then most likely the coffee growers are being kept in poverty by unfair distribution practices.
- Are your cosmetics tested on animals?
- Does anyone still eat veal? Haven't they seen pictures of the baby calves living their lives locked in a small pen?
- Is there an organic and affordable option that is grown without the use of pesticides which harm animals, soil, and water supplies?
- Does this product include toxic chemicals?
- Can I choose a vehicle that gets better gas mileage?
It has been my experience that it feels good to make choices that promote a peaceful planet.
